In the fall of 2011, I ran a series of posts here concerning Sartre's take on the issue of Free Will vs. Determinism, and how many of the disparate ideas in his philosophy of Existentialism could be used to construct a compelling case for free will. The posts stirred up more controversy than I would have anticipated, some from people who advocated determinism, some from people who seemed to have a personal gripe with Sartre himself. Still, it provoked some interesting discussion that went well beyond the scope of the posts themselves.
