Time Travel Month

This month I thought I'd do something a little different.  Instead of the random assortment of nonsense that I usually post, I've decided to post a random assortment of nonsense with a running theme: Time Travel.  I've been planning this for a while.  If you recall way back, I mentioned that time travel has been an obsession of mine since I was a kid and that I was going post some thoughts on the subject one of these days.  Well, today is one of these days.  Actually, it's a whole month of these days.  So, let's get things started off on the right foot.  In the spirit of this theme, I'm going give you the links to all the posts for this month so that you can go into the future and read them before I write them:

Trying to Understand Relativity(part 8)

Ah, so you're back.  How was it?  Wait...don't tell me the details.  It's probably better if I don't know.  I'm sure you can well imagine the temptation for me to click on the links myself.  I could take a peek, see what I wrote, maybe even just copy and paste the posts as "new posts" as I go along.  That would certainly save me the trouble of having to think of what to say and the effort of having to write it.  Unfortunately, this would result in what's called an ontological paradox.  But I'm getting ahead of myself.  Literally.  Hmm, I wonder if maybe I could just take a quick glance at that first link, just to see how this post is supposed to end.  Ahhh...Really?....Like that?....Well, that's lame.

(p.s. Doug Stevens @ I Like Cheese has decided to match me post for post on this, doing his own riff on the above titles.  I'll post the links to his versions at the bottom of each post.  Atypical Scott @ Atypical Read is also doing...something.  It involves insanity, I know that.)

  1. I read your latest post and just have to say, WOW! Of course, I will tell you what was so amazing about it, but that might alter the future and thus make a good thing possibly a bad thing. Granted, it might make it greater than it was, but that would be cheating and goes against the law of time travel, if I recall.

The future me wishes the current you well.

  2. If what you write is a random assortment of nonsense, then what do you call what I write?

Now, if you go and edit this at the end of the month to add hyperlinks and you save it...won't it appear as the newest blog and therefore not be from the past, but from the present?

  3. Naw, I've gone back and edited old posts before. They stay right where they belong.

  4. Well, I read them all and wow, you're a genius Bryan. ;) Okay, fine, you got me, I can't time travel and have to wait.

  5. So, which delorian will you be using for this adventure?

  6. You could be more conventional, Bryan, and do your time-travel into the past. More feasible too, and there is fun to be had. For example, see Running from Safety (1995) by Richard Bach, of Jonathan Livingstone Seagull fame. The older self travels back in time to meet the child of the same name. Each learns from the other.

  9. @Patricia: Well, at least you're not telling me anything I didn't already know:)

@Asha: I think I'll take the flying one with Mr. Fusion.

@Vincent: Ha! From that comment I can almost believe you DID read ahead, but you'll see, if you haven't already saw.

@Rachel: Don't you mean that thing you found TOMORROW night!?

    @Martin: Yeah. Me too.

  10. "The Infinite Pocketwatch" article had a great prospective and some extraordinary imaginative energy. The imagery, the timeless metaphors and the way you weaved them all together was (will be) completely stupendous. This sir, was most likely the greatest piece of literature ever written or should I say will be written.

Keep that in mind when write it.:)

  11. Ever looked at the TimeTravelFund.com? I seriously thought about sending them 10 bucks one time, because...well, who knows?

  12. @Tommy: Wow! I hope I can live up to myself and do what I'm going to do.

@Doug: Is that like a charity thing donating towards invention of a time machine, or some kind of scheme where they deposit your money in a bank account in the past and watch it accrue interest? I'm have to check it out.

  13. Supposedly your money accrues interest, and then sometime in the future when time travel is invented they will come and get you for a time travelling adventure. Silly. Wish I had thought of it.

  14. The hardest thing about time travel is writing about it. Our language isn't set up to handle the tenses. I certainly will enjoy reading your future posts when I read them earlier this morning. I did enjoy the imagery you will use but in "Correspondence" you will make a certain Azimov reference that I won't get. I wish you'd be a little clearer, but of course, you won't. (grin)

  15. @Doug: So you're buying advance...very advance tickets aboard a time machine. Nice.

@Darev2005: Tell me about. The tenses definitely get confusing when the chronology and the causality are in different orders.

  16. I just modified my e-mail time travel method and posted a reply, hopefully dated Feb.1, about the time travel fund.

    I see it worked.
